Disclosures
How this site makes money, and what the writing here is and isn't.
Affiliate disclosure
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and subscribe to a product, I may receive a commission from that company at no additional cost to you, and in some cases you receive a discount you wouldn't get otherwise.
Specifically: I participate in the FreshBooks partner program. If you start a FreshBooks subscription through a link on this site, I earn a referral commission.
Two things I want to be clear about:
- The recommendation came first. I recommend FreshBooks to paying clients in my practice, and I joined the partner program because I was already recommending it, not the other way around.
- The commission never changes the advice. I write about where these products fall short, and I regularly tell people to use something else, including competitors I earn nothing from. If a tool is wrong for your business, I'd rather tell you than collect a referral fee on a subscription you'll cancel.
Every page containing an affiliate link says so on that page, near the link. This disclosure exists so you can weigh the recommendation with full information, which is what the FTC's endorsement guidelines are there to protect.
Editorial policy
Articles are written and reviewed by Kodex & Co. Where I use drafting tools to help produce a first draft, every factual claim, figure, and recommendation is reviewed and verified by me before publication, and the professional judgment in these articles is mine.
Software pricing, features, and tax figures change. Each article shows a "reviewed" date; if you're reading one long after that date, verify current pricing and current-year tax figures with the vendor or the IRS directly.
If you find something on this site that's wrong, email me at hello@kodexandco.com and I'll correct it.
Not a law firm
Kodex & Co is not a law firm and is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney. No one here is licensed to practice law. We do not give legal advice, we do not select your entity type for you, and we do not draft, customize, or review legal documents such as operating agreements or bylaws. Formation documents are prepared and filed exclusively at your direction, you decide what to form and what goes in it, and you represent yourself. No attorney-client relationship or privilege is created by using this site or our services. Comparisons of entity types published on this site are general information addressed to every reader; whether a particular structure is right for you can involve legal judgment about liability and ownership, and that question belongs with a licensed attorney. We're glad to refer you to one.
Not tax or financial advice
The writing on this site is general educational information for business owners. It is not individualized tax, accounting, or financial advice, and reading it does not create a client relationship between us. Tax law is specific to your situation, your entity type, and your jurisdiction, and it changes. Before acting on anything here, talk to a professional who knows your particular circumstances, that can be me, or anyone else.
Privacy
REPLACE WITH YOUR ACTUAL PRIVACY POLICY. At minimum, state: what you collect (email addresses via the checklist form), what you use it for, what email service stores it, that you never sell or share it, and how to unsubscribe. If you use analytics or an email provider, name them. Many email platforms provide a template you can adapt. What this site collects. The filing enquiry form asks for your name, contact details, the entity you want to form, and the county you're forming in. That goes into a private database that only I can read, and I use it to quote and complete your filing. Nothing on this site asks for a Social Security number, and there is deliberately nowhere to store one.
The checklist. Asking for the printable checklist opens your own email program and sends me a message. There is no mailing list and no signup form, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from.
Analytics. This site uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies and does not follow you to other sites. It is not loaded on the client portal.
I don't sell or share your details with anyone.
